Since leaving the EU in 2020, there are several routes you can take to work in the UK. As every body’s situation is different, A1 Locums are unable to advise if you are eligible for any scheme, so we have supplied the links below for you to make an individual check and prepare yourself for your job search.

Right to Work in the UK
All employers in the UK, regardless of the size of business or sector they operate in, must ensure that every worker is eligible to work in the UK. This means running a manual Right to Work check – seeing and checking relevant evidence – or carrying out a digital Right to Work check, for those who are eligible. It is an offence to employ someone who you knew or had ‘reasonable cause to believe’ did not have the Right to Work in the UK including, for example, if you had any reason to believe that their identity.
On 1st October 2026, changes to the Amendments to the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025 (BSAI 2025) have expanded the Right to Work scheme, widening the definition of ’employer’ to cover a broader range of workers.
Previously, only direct ’employees’ fell under Right to Work check guidance. Under the expanded scheme, A1 Locums are now required as an agency to carry out and verify your right to work checks in house. We are using a GOV listed company called Trust ID for this service.
Check Your Qualifications
Remember to check your qualifications with the RCVS to see if your qualifications are recognised by the RCVS or if you need to register. Process below is listed for veterinary vets and nurses; it is also important to check the level of English required and necessary certification.

After checking your RCVS status and if you can come to the UK, you can then start looking at jobs which offer sponsorship.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship can be offered by corporate practices and by independent practices. You will need to apply for jobs advertising sponsorship.
