Veterinary Orthopaedic Intern vacancy at a referral practice in West Sussex.
Salary: £38 - £42k, dependant on experience.
Do you want to gain further experience in orthopaedics, follow the path to become a specialist in small animal surgery or do you have a particular interest in small animal orthopaedics surgery? If so, this could be the job for you!
This is a busy, dedicated small animal orthopaedic surgery referral practice. The Veterinary team comprises RCVS Specialists in Small Animal Surgery, one ECVS Diplomate in Small Animal Surgery, and one RCVS Advanced Practitioner.
The practice is located in a newly refurbished building in a beautiful rural setting with excellent facilities (2 operating theatres and on-site CT). They are very well equipped to deal with the full range of orthopaedic procedures (THR, TPLO, CUE, arthroscopy, etc).
The role of the intern is to assist the referral surgeons in the diagnosis and surgical management of referred cases. You will have an important role in the perioperative care of surgical cases under the supervision of the referral surgeons and will gain a lot of experience in all aspects of case management. You will be able to perform certain parts of routine surgeries depending on experience and will have free in house CPD of routine orthopaedic procedures.
The position will particularly appeal to recent graduates or people with a few years` experience in general practice who are interested in gaining further know how in orthopaedics or pursuing a career in referral/specialised surgery. Several of their previous interns have secured university residency positions and have published articles in peer-reviewed journals, becoming ECVS and RCVS diplomates.
The position is full-time on a fixed term contract for 12 months, with one in three weekends on call.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must hold a veterinary qualification recognised by the RCVS that allows you to practise within the UK and already have the right to work in the UK in place prior to application.
